Sorry gang, no real post tonight. Difficult evening with the big E. All sorted now. Par for the course.
Tomorrow we are back to our regularly schedule....oh who am I kidding, there's no schedule.
See you then.
I had the absolute privilege of being interviewed by the lovely and astoundingly dedicated JP/Deb over at Jane Poet. People, she read through an enormous amount of my archives and came up with some excellent questions. Things like, Did Finn become a serial flasher? and When did I start saying 'oy vey'? I can't even begin to tell you how much I laughed rereading the posts she referenced. It was a great walk down memory lane.
In fact, I recommend you head on over to Jane's blog and read my interview right now. And while you are there, drop a comment and show Jane some love. She's earned it, afterall.
Yesterday I had a lovely visit with the Susanne, winner of the purse! We had such a great, if too quick, visit and a fab cup of coffee.
:: The sun was streaming through her front window. ::
:: Her children delighted and entertained. ::
And although she got a new purse, I'm pretty sure I was the lucky one.
I swear, last pair of sexy shoes and I'll move on.
I like to sum these up with one word: lingerie. Because, number one, they are seriously the most.uncomfortable.shoes.ever. Good only for provocative lounging. Can not be worn anywhere, ever. I can't really walk in them, and people, as my good friend Shram will attest, I can walk in ANY heels. So it's saying a lot bad about them that I can't wear them.
Oh and number two. Well, do I REALLY have to explain the second reason I call these lingerie?
Yeah. I didn't think so.
1. mashed potatoes
2. sweaters
3. real wood fires
4. red lipstick (still) (and not because of Mad Men) (I've always loved it) (my current favourite colour is Revlon's Mulled Wine)
5. my hot water bottle
6. martinis (gin not vodka) (stirred or shaken) (olive or lemon twist) (okay that one is totally because of Mad Men)
7. my Hamlet rehearsals
8. blogging again
9. eggs for breakfast
10. using this every day
So, um, right. I have a couple of obsessive collections going on around here. One being vintage kitchen stuff and the other being shoes. I have a lot of both. Embarrassing amounts actually. I can pass up a lot of things, vice wise, but it almost physically pains me to walk away from a great find. And I can't even tell you what qualifies as a good find. Just sometimes, a pair of shoes or an old casserole dish resonates with something deep in side me.
I have issues, people, clearly. Of this much I am aware.
So in lieu of therapy, I thought I'd share some of my favourites with you here. It may be a recurring theme, since, well the collections are rather large.
I have two of these Johnson Bros 'Daisies Won't Tell' platters hanging in my kitchen. I love the simplicity of the colour scheme and the clean shape of them. I love that the pattern is called 'Daisies Won't Tell'. I mean come on, how fabulous is that? And of course, the mark of any truly treasured piece in my collection - this pair has grown on me. I love them more now than I did when I first got them.
And these are just fun. Totally kill my feet to wear for anything but lounging at a cocktail party, which, granted, never happens, but worth it. Orange leopard print open toed sling backs by Go Fresh. Love.
:: I'm still obsessed with self portraits. I started taking them just before I started blogging 4 years ago. I have thousands now....it's a bit embarrassing, but I just.can't.stop.
:: I'm working full time, and yet my house doesn't really look any worse for wear, which confirms earlier suspicions (ha!) that I'm not all that dedicated a housekeeper.
:: I dreamed last night that someone offered me a job teaching art at a college level and I was ecstatic. sigh
:: I still love words like lexicon and scintillating. Somehow these words rarely manage to work themselves into daily conversation. I shall make a distinct effort to correct that.
:: I'm missing my out-of-door alone time or, you know, running. I really wish that I work part time and have the best of both worlds.
:: Apologies that this post is lame. If you read down this far YAY! leave a comment and I'll enter your name in a draw for a lovely purse that has been waiting for a new owner. I may even throw in some other goodies I've been working on.
Edited to add :: I'll draw a name for the purse this weekend. I'll leave the comments open until Saturday at 10 pm my time. And yes, Zephie, I'll gladly ship as far away as you!!
I spent some time yesterday evening transferring some of my archive from my (dot)mac account over here. Slowly but surely I'm gaining ground on that list of things that I said was 10 miles long. I have to admit something though, I'm a little ashamed of how many whiney 'I've been lazy, I'll get off my slacking a** and post something soon, blah-de-blah" posts there were. People! I don't consider myself a whiner but I sure have whined a whole bunch in the last year. I would like to extend my humblest apologies to you, dear readers, who have continued to bravely check in. All three of you.
I did find a few gems though. I remembered how much I was enjoying doing the 'x365' notes. I need to pick that up again. And also, not surprisingly, I actually have been making stuff. I've just been too lazy (sorry!) to actually document it. So a little update in that department might be nice, you know, for the sake of posterity and such.
All that to say, internets? How I have miss you!! I'm sorry I've been in such a self pitying funk. The last year (okay two, but are really counting?) seemed to have been a low point for a variety of reasons - none of them really good ones either. BUT, I felt the upswing start to take hold this summer. And for the first time in a very long time, I'm feeling some hope.
And you know what? That really is something.
I prefer circles and squares over trinagles and diamonds.
Apples over oranges, skirts over shorts, dogs over cats.
I prefer cooking over cleaning and showers over baths.
Swear words with flair over crudeness.
Brunette over blond.
And sunshine.
You?
